Calling for Awards – MOSCON 2026

Esteemed MOS members,

Enclosed herewith is the list of the awards given annually. As per the decision of the MOS Scientific Committee during its meeting in July 2026, except for the V. K. Chitnis Oration, Lifetime Achievement Award, Best Medical Teacher Award (3), Ahmednagar Academy Award, S. N. Cooper Oration, S. D. Athawale Award, Prof. Ishwarchandra Award, and Prof. T. P. Lahane Award, the remaining awards shall be competitive. The above-mentioned awards shall be decided by the Scientific Committee Chairman.

Dr. Maria Award

Prof. Maria Award is for the best comprehensive ophthalmologist of Maharashtra. Should be a member of the MOS. Can be a private practitioner or in service. Should have practiced for at least 10 years after completing post-graduation. Should have attended at least 3 conferences of the MOS.

Dr. V. K. Chitnis Oration

V. K. Chitnis Award is in recognition of exceptional and exemplary scientific work done by an MOS member in a given specialty. A short summary of the C.V. and a 50-line abstract of the presenting paper of the nominee should be sent. The nominee must present the paper in person. In unavoidable circumstances, the co-author or another member designated by the nominee may be allowed to present the paper with the permission of the President of MOS. Applicants for the V. K. Chitnis Oration must submit the full text of their scientific work before 15th July.

Lifetime Achievement Award

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes the lifetime contribution of an MOS member to Ophthalmology in scientific, organizational, and educational capacities. Awarded to senior members not less than 65 years of age. Should have actively participated in the society for a minimum period of 10 years. Can be recommended only by societies affiliated with MOS. The affiliated society may recommend any name posthumously. Recommendations should be sent to the Chairman, Scientific Committee along with: 3 copies of detailed bio-data Photograph Information regarding contribution to MOS organization, scientific work, community work, and health education.

Best Medical Teacher Award

Instituted by Solapur Ophthalmic Society. Recommendation should come from the District Ophthalmological Society. Detailed bio-data and academic, social, and scientific work should be enclosed. Candidate may be a full-time or honorary teacher, in service or retired. Should be a recognized postgraduate teacher for a minimum period of 15 years, recognized by a University or the National Board of Examination, Delhi.

Ahmednagar Academy Award

For a non-ophthalmologist working for the cause of prevention and eradication of blindness and for rehabilitation of the blind.

Dr. S. N. Cooper Oration Award

For a non-ophthalmologist/physician, medical specialist, or research scientist who has worked on ophthalmic aspects in his/her specialty.

Dr. S. D. Athawale Award

Any life member of MOS who has done exemplary work in Community Ophthalmology.

Dr. Ishwarchandra Award

Any life member of MOS above 40 years of age who has done exemplary work in Ophthalmology can apply.

Padmashree Prof. Dr. T. P. Lahane Award

For an ophthalmologist who has made an exceptional contribution in the field of clinical and community Ophthalmology in India and has contributed to academics and research. (This will be a one-time award for any ophthalmologist.)
